A collection of facts from separate local news reports and analysis of various images.
Background
On 11 October 2026 from 2:30 AM to 4:30 AM (Myanmar time) a large drone attack was carried out against Camp Horeb, a major camp of the NSCN-EF insurgent group located near the town of Layshi or Leshi. The group claims no casualties and that around 60 bombs were dropped. Reports from NKTV suggest that 36 cadres might have been killed, though this remains unverified.
NSCN (National Socialist Council of Nagalim) is an insurgent group seeking independence for the Naga peoples of Northeast India and Myanmar. NSCN-EF is a splinter group of the main insurgency.
Drone fragments
The group has released several pictures of the drones that struck their camp through social media and local media outlets.
A custom-built quadcopter, with various electronics visible. Carbon fiber heavy-lift rotors are used, for its nearby "payload".
On the left, a 60mm mortar shell with a makeshift electronic trigger through a modified fuse assembly. (see the attached crocodile clip). This shell has been modified to serve as a crude aerial bomb.
Left: Remains of a fixed-wing locally assembled drone, with the hallmarks of 3D printing (notice how the drone fuselage is not a cylinder but a polygon). Right: Damage on one of the camp's buildings
Munitions
An improvised bomb dropped from a drone that failed to explode. The rear is probably scavenged from a mortar shell owing to its 8-fin design and metal build (likely aluminum), while the front seems to be a makeshift explosive.
Culprit
While the group alleges the Indian military carried out the strike, an attack by the Junta or even by another insurgent faction remains very possible. If a state actor has conducted the attacks, atleast one of the reasons involves plausible deniability. By using off the shelf parts and modifications, proper identification is not possible.
This attack will significantly diminish the NSCN-EF's capability in the region. Notably, this attack occurred just 4 days after a meeting between India and Myanmar on October 7.
